Born in England, with my family I emigrated to New Zealand as a child.

Early in 2004 I moved to Queensland, Australia and have since lived in Redlands city by the sea, south east of Brisbane.

The birds and landscape of Australia have held inspiration for many of my paintings.

My Artistic Background
I spent time at the Canterbury University of Fine Arts in the 1960s where I obtained my
Preliminary Diploma in Fine Arts. I belonged to the Christchurch Art Society and from the
1970s onwards, the Lower Hutt Art Society in Wellington and the New Zealand Academy of
Fine Arts.

Yvonne Rust, a famous New Zealand artist and potter, was an inspirational teacher.
I spent three years attending her studio in Christchurch during her time at university.

As a young artist I exhibited on many occasions with both societies from the late 1960s
through to the 1980s and sold many works. During this time I was commissioned for two
portraits. In Wellington I also taught drawing and painting with the Lower Hutt Art Society
and was involved with helping to construct a curriculum for a local polytechnic in
Wellington.

In Australia

I currently belong the the Schoolhouse Gallery which is a group of 20 artists who have monthly exhibitions in their own dedicated gallery in the Redlands.

I also belong to the Redland Yurara Art Society and was asked to join the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society - with these two groups I have also exhibited.

One of my paintings was choosen for the 2011 Brisbane Art Spectacular.

In 2011 I became the coordinator of the Art pavillion at Redfest, an annual spring festival held every September in the Redlands.

By the way the scrawly "MAE" at the top next my name, is how I sign my paintings.
